Your First Session

What to Expect When You Call the Clinic:

When you call in to the clinic to schedule an appointment 650 961-9300, you will be asked to provide some initial information over the telephone to help us evaluate if our clinic is your best treatment option. You will then be scheduled for an initial 90 minute assessment session with a psychologist in training.

What to Expect in Your First Session:

Please plan to arrive at the clinic about 30 minutes before your appointment you will be asked to complete some initial information including a questionnaire. You will be asked to review and sign a form (“Consent to Psychological Treatment”) describing important office policies such as handling of emergencies, protection and use of confidential information and limits to confidentiality as well as a “Notice of Privacy Policies” which tells you about how your information can be used.

In order to save time in your first appointment, please download, review and complete these important materials and bring them to your first session if possible.

  1. Fee Schedule
  2. Consent to Psychological Treatment
  3. HIPAA Notice of Privacy Policies
  4. Client Questionnaire (This gives us important information about you, the problems you are coming in to get help with and your mental health history)

After the First Session

In the initial session your therapist will get to know you, try to answer any questions you have and will review basic assessment and psychotherapy procedures and expectations. A part of this initial discussion will be about client confidentiality and the legal limits to protected confidential information.
After two to three initial meetings your therapist will summarize the problems you have been discussing and will discuss possible treatment options for you. We are interested in developing a collaborative relationship with you in which we try to decide together what kind of treatment would be best for you. However, not everyone will be referred for continuing therapy at the clinic. We make decisions on what we believe will be best for the client.

We look forward to seeing you.
