Us
The Early
Intervention Clinic collaborates with the Gronowski clinic by providing
referrals and clinician training on assisting trauma survivors. The Early Intervention Clinic was established in 2003 and is located in Palo
Alto, CA. Our Clinic provides 5 weeks of counseling services to individuals who
have experienced a traumatic event within the last 6 months. Services are
offered free as part of a research project comparing different approaches in
assisting those who have experienced trauma. Participants must meet certain
criteria to be eligible to receive this service.
Who We Are
The founding Directors of the Early Intervention Clinic are Dr. Josef Ruzek
and Dr. Matthew Cordova. Both Directors are Licensed Clinical Psychologists
employed through the prestigious Palo Alto Veteran’s Administration Health Care
System and are faculty at the Pacific Graduate School of Psychology (PGSP). The
Director’s are assisted by a team of graduate students from PGSP pursuing
additional education in trauma-related mental health care. Click here for more

How We Can Help
For Trauma Victims...
Trauma can lead to a variety of difficulties. Some people report being
overwhelmed with fear and re-experiencing the trauma with the same thoughts,
feelings, and physical reactions they had at the time of the event. These may
include thinking about the trauma, seeing images of the event, having nightmares
or flashbacks, and feeling physically and emotionally upset when reminded of the
trauma. They may find themselves feeling as though they are in danger, feeling
panic-like sensations, wanting to escape and feeling irritable. Some people feel
emotionally numb or detached. They experience trouble sleeping and concentrating
as well. These symptoms, as well as others, can significantly interfere with
important aspect of the trauma survivor's life. The Early Intervention Clinic is
studying different approaches aimed at lessening the intensity and frequency of
these symptoms in hopes of preventing further distress later in the healing

For Referring Organizations...
The Early Intervention Clinic accepts referrals from a variety of
organizations throughout the Bay Area. If you are interested in referring
